Sprint DTMF Updates
Important information about your 911 service

As previously communicated, the 911 emergency response systems used in Reno, Nevada, parts of Oregon and by the California Highway Patrol (CHP) ask callers to use touch-tones to reach 911 services. Some Motorola phones previously included a safety feature that blocks such touch-tones to prevent disruption of emergency calls.*

When you dial 911 in these areas, you will be prompted to either press [1] or say “EMERGENCY” to speak to a dispatcher. When you encounter this prompt, it is important to be sure to say “EMERGENCY” instead of dialing [1]. This will ensure the emergency response system acknowledges your command and connects you to a dispatcher.

If you have one of the phones listed on the left and would like to check for software updates, please select ‘UPGRADE UTILITY’ below.

If you are prompted by your handset with a message that reads “IMPORTANT improvement for E911 calls — FREE Software Available,” please choose ‘Y’ to “Install Now.”. Many customers have already accepted this easy, over-the-air handset software update.

Your satisfaction is our top priority. Update your Sprint phone’s software regularly to make sure you stay connected wherever life takes you.

*This safety feature, which Motorola implemented prior to automated response systems being used for 911 calls, has been discontinued in newer units.
