Your Motorola Phone and 2007 Daylight-Saving Time Changes

Beginning in 2007, daylight saving time (DST) will be extended in the United States and Canada (where DST is observed). DST will start on March 11, 2007, which is three weeks earlier than usual, and it will end on November 4, 2007, one week later than usual. This change adds four weeks of DST to the calendar. Without adjustments, the time on your phone’s clock and calendar appointments may be an hour off during this four-week period.

Most Motorola phones will pick up the correct time through the service provider network – you will not have to do anything.

However, if you are using one of the following Motorola phones, and you synchronize your calendar via Microsoft Activesync or MotoSync™, use the instructions provided to prepare your computer and your phone. Please take these steps before March 11 if possible, to avoid having your phone’s clock and calendar appointments reflect incorrect times.

We recommend you update your computer software prior to updating your phone software. Check these links for information on DST updates from Microsoft and Apple

  • Moto Q ™, MPx200, MPx220, i930 and i920:A software update for these phones is available through Microsoft here
  • A1200, also known as MotoMing ™or Hainan:: There are currently 2 model variations of the A1200 available. To determine which variation you have and if you should follow the update steps for the A1200 or A780 click here.

No software update is required for the Motorola A1200, since you can manually adjust the DST settings:
      • Go to Applications > Time > Settings (lower-left button with 3 bars) > Setup > Daylight Saving Setup
      • Change “Begin Date” to March 11, 2007
      • Change “End Date” to November 4, 2007
      • Click Save > Click OK > Click OK
  • A780: A DST software update is not available for the A780 – it will automatically adjust your phone based on pre-2007 DST start and stop dates. By manually adjusting its time zones as instructed below, you can maintain the correct calendar settings. After each time zone adjustment, be sure to check the phone’s clock and adjust it as needed.

      • On March 11, 2007, manually set your time zone one hour forward (e.g. from GMT-06:00 to GMT-05:00)
      • On April 1, 2007, manually set your time zone back to your true time zone.
      • On October 28, 2007, manually set your time zone one hour forward (e.g. GMT-6:00 to GMT-5:00)
      • On November 4, 2007, manually set your time zone back to your true time zone.
      • To make these adjustments:
        • Go to Applications > Time > Local City > Browse
        • Select a time zone based on the dates and instructions above.
        • Click OK
        • Use the time utility to reset the time if necessary
        • Click OK

Note: If you are using Good Mobile Messaging on your phone, you will also need to update your Good software. Have your IT department contact Motorola’s Good Technology Group
here for directions on updating your phone.
